St. Ethelreda Class of 1959

What's Going On Now:

Family: Tina and I will celebrate our 36th anniversary this year. The three children are all grown and off on their own. Meghan lives and works in Washington DC area after graduating from the University of Virginia in 1998. Kevin graduated from St. Louis University in 2002 and works as a financial analyst in St. Louis for an intranet service provider. Bridget also graduated from the University of Virginia in 2006 and is working at the corporate headquarters of a clothing manufacturer/retailer in Columbus, Ohio. None of the kids are married, so no grandchildren as of yet.

Professional: I joined Arthur Andersen & Co in 1967 after graduation from Loyola University. Except for two years in the US Army, I was with Arthur Anderson for 34 years, the last 21 as a partner. We were in the Chicago office until 1979 when we transferred to the St. Louis office. In 1992 we transferred to the Washington DC office as a result of a client relocation. In 1995 I became a firm-wide practice director and spent a lot of time traveling to various offices of the firm. On August 31, 2001 I opted for early retirement at age 56 to try something different. Little did I know that Andersen's problems with Enron would start within 45 days of my retirement and the firm would effectively be out of business within a year. Arthur Andersen was a great organization. It was truly unfortunate for the Firm to be destroyed by Michael Chertoff, then with the Department of Justice. The Supreme Court of the US eventually reversed the decision against the firm in a 9-0 vote but by that time the firm was gone. After Andersen, I took a few years off but in January 2005 went back to work for a Chicago-based litigation support and forensic accounting firm, Navigant Consulting Inc., as a Managing Director. Work is interesting but involves a lot of travel and, at times, hours. Consequently, when I finish up my current assignments, I will re-retire later this year.

Personal: My true remaining passion is playing golf; knee surgery having ended my running career back in the '80's. We have a second home in Pinehurst, NC, and I spend as much time down there as I can playing and working on my golf game. It is an addictive sport- - -one that can be incredibly frustrating at times but also the source of great fun and camaraderie. It truly is a game for a lifetime; I just wish I had started playing earlier than my mid-30's. Tina stays busy working a couple of days a week for a nearby arts & craft store, as well as volunteering at a local hospital thrift store. We enjoy traveling and spending time with the kids.
